The human hearted way in brief

The human hearted way is an approach to life  that recommends cultivating and building on our human pro-social capacities—such as our potential for compassion, love and friendship —as the key path to  meaning and fulfillment in life.

The core idea is that the source of pro social feelings and behaviors like love, compassion and sympathy come from our inherent social potential, our human heart, not from an external source such as God, the nation, or pure reason.

The path to a meaningful and fulfilling life therefore is to cultivate the best of our humanity, and build better relations with others, rather than surrendering our conscience and independence to an external idol like a God or a nation.

The human hearted way is the best, and most evidence based, path to meaning and fulfillment  in the face of the vast and meaningless universe we all inhabit.

Human hardheartedness is a practice as much as a set of ideas. People practicing human heartedness use reason, evidence and experience to work out the best path to living a more fulfilling life, by developing their own human heartedness, and building communities influenced by human heartedness. Building on human heartedness, we can create happier and more fulfilled versions of ourselves, of our local communities, of humanity and of our world. Human heartedness does not reject reason, but places reason in the context of human sociality.

We live in a world where the old value systems of religion and tradition are crumbling in the face of a market based modernity. The answer is not to return to religion, nor is to endlessly pursue greater wealth, the best alternative path to meaning and fulfilment is to live a more human hearted life.
